Tuesday 2 August: Get out those pirate costumes and prepare for a party because it’s Caribbean Carnival day at Redcar Racecourse on Saturday 6 August.
Many families will be making their way to the Tees Valley racecourse because, as always, youngsters aged under 16 are being given free admission when accompanied by an adult.
Saturday is when mums, dads and children can all enter the Caribbean Carnival competition by dressing up in a pirate outfit or grass skirt.
There will be the opportunity too for grown-ups to sample calypso cocktails and for everyone to dance to the rhythms of a steel band.
There will be lots of entertainment for children, including clowns, face painting, bouncy castles and slides.
The feature horse race is the John Smith’s Redcar Straight-Mile Championship Handicap, and racing gets under way at 1.55pm, with the closing race at 5.10pm.
Former jockey Jimmy Bleasdale will be hosting a behind-the-scenes tour of the racecourse including a visit to the Weighing Room. The tour will start at 12.15pm in front of the Petch Stand.
After the Caribbean Carnival Day, the highlights for the rest of the year at Redcar Racecourse include:
v Saturday 27 August – Ladies’ and Gents’ Evening;
v Saturday 1 October – Seasonal climax with the £150,000 Tote Two Year Old Trophy, the Listed Guisborough Stakes and the final of the John Smith’s Straight Mile Championship Series.

Grandstand £15; Course Enclosure £5. Accompanied children 16 always admitted free of charge. Seniors £12 Grandstand and £4 Course Enclosure.

Every special package bought for the Grandstand gets a £5 voucher redeemable against future bookings.
